Here's my two cent worth on "In
Blue"
(After snippets of some of the songs from the web)
Yes, I have to agree with most people that The Corrs
had a chance in music style for "In Blue". This time the music is
more upbeat with computer generated sounds and effects.
Do I see their change in music style as selling
out to their Celtic sound in order to hit into the American music
scene? Not really.
I haven't had the privilege to hear the whole album yet but at least
"Give Me A Reason" has Sharon playing the violin solely somewhere
in the middle and the song do have a Celtic feel to it.
Try listening to Afro Celts. If you are able to
accept their music as partly Celtic, then The Corrs aren't selling
out.
How many bands or musicians do you know uses violin
as part of the instruments. And violin plays a big part in Celtic
music doesn't it?
Andrea plays the Tin Whistle, Caroline plays the
Bodhran, and even Jim plays the Accordion, though we haven't seen
it yet, but these are traditional Celtic instruments. And as someone
picking up Tin Whistle and Bodhran, don't you try to incorporate
what you took so long to master into your work? I will. So I don't
think we are never gonna hear them again.
Maybe they didn't have the chance to include them
in "In Blue", I don't know, I haven't heard the whole album yet,
but these sounds aren't going to go extinct.
And Sharon's violin, which I'm sure, will never
cease to exist, as long as The Corrs have a say in their music.
And why criticize their change in music style? Don't
they have the right to experiment with other music style? Many other
artistes did it.
Take Garbage for example. First album, alternative
without computer generated sounds. Second album, Version 2.0, they
used the computer extensively.
And most famous in my view, Madonna. Any long time
fan not like "Ray Of Light"? That album deferred from her usual
style too. But I absolutely love the album. It's a great and daring
effort. I even think "In Blue" is trying to pull another "Ray Of
Light".
If you are criticizing Garbage and Madonna, then
I believe you don't accept changes easily.
For me, it is refreshing to hear new sounds from
The Corrs. It's a break from their previous music style. Don't you
get tired of listening to the same style of music? And I think it
is worst for artistes. They have to listen to the same style a zillion
times while recording it. And another zillion times performing and
promoting the album.
If you aren't criticizing, then it is not so hard
to accept that The Corrs are experimenting with new music style.
They are trying to process, to advance and not to become stagnant
in what they do best.
"In Blue" in my opinion sounds more rock with a
slight hint of techno and Celtic, an extension of what they used
to produce.
